CNSX Announces Lower Fees for Pure Trading

CNSX Markets Inc. announces lower fees for Pure Trading, effective April 2009/Introduces optional monthly trading fee for TSXV securities

March 20, 2009 – CNSX Markets Inc. (CNSX Markets) today announced an innovative pilot program lowering fees for securities listed on the TSX Venture exchange that are posted for trading on Pure Trading. Effective April 1, 2009, the new fees represent one of the most significant reductions in the cost of trading since the introduction of multiple markets to Canada.

No fee will be charged to the passive side of each trade and a flat fee of $0.50 will be applied to each “same day” active order resulting in a trade, no matter how many passive orders it interacts with. These fees will be capped at a maximum of $5,000 per month per participating dealer. Each dealer may instead elect in advance to pay a fee of $3,000 per month for the right to remove an unlimited amount of liquidity.

Following extensive consultation with the Canadian trading community CNSX Markets has designed the new fees to balance the needs of liquidity providers and consumers. The pilot program will be closely monitored with customers in the coming weeks. If successful, this approach will be applied to trading in TSX-listed securities trading under $1.00 per share. At present there will be no changes to the current fees for trading TSX-listed securities that were effective as of March 2.

“We’re extremely pleased with the rate of development of competitive marketplaces and the benefits that they have brought to the Canadian trading community”, said Ian Bandeen, CEO of CNSX Markets. “Since we launched the first competitive continuous auction market we have used Better, Faster, Cheaper as our motto and our goal. This initiative reinforces our dedication to the pursuit of this goal.”

With full connectivity available to all participants and market data distributed through all major vendors, Pure Trading is unique among alternative trading venues in having achieved universal integration with the trading community. CNSX Markets will continue to meet with all of the stakeholders impacted by trading fees, with an ongoing objective of arriving at solutions that work for the full range of participants.
